Careers!
- A Real Estate career
can be enormously rewarding, both financially and
emotionally! At The Home Office Realty we are
very, very selective when it comes to hiring
existing or new agents. Having been at
this for 24 years I have noticed distinct patterns
of personality traits, beliefs and habits that are
necessary to a long term successful career.
For the new agent it is very important to come into
this business with the right perspective/paradigm.
The rate of failure in our business is about 90%
within 2 years. I believe that the primary reason
for that is that too many people come into the
business without an honest, accurate picture of what
to expect. Here are some basic facts everyone
interested in a real estate career should know.
-
- #1. It isn't
easy. Making a living in real estate is a
monumental task. It is not for the faint of heart.
It takes long, long hours, hard work, and a firm
commitment to customer service.
-
- #2. It isn't
flexible. A great majority of employee
prospects over the years have told me that one of
the things that attracts them to Real Estate is the
'flexibility". My answer always is, "that's right,
you get to pick the 70 hours a week you work!" Also,
while you don't have a direct boss, the customers
and clients become our bosses and we really
have to answer to them!
-
- #3. It isn't a
part time job. I don't hire part time agents.
For years I did. I always believed that this
person would be the one that would really make it,
along with his/her other job. I thought of it as
"transitional", the new agent would just keep the
old job while they built up a business in Real
Estate. In 6 offices in 3 counties, over 15 years
with over a hundred tries not one ever made that
transition. That's when I stopped hiring part time
or transitional. It takes a full time commitment!
-
- #4. You don't end
up spending more time with family. There
is however a good side here. You can generally pick
the quality time you have for family. You can be at
the soccer games, the swim meet etc. You probably
have to go back to work after, but you were there
for the game!
-
- #5. It is very
rewarding! There is a great thrill that
comes with doing a great job for your clients and
customers! When that newlywed couple thanks
you for helping to start their life together, or a
retiring couple thanks you for helping them move on
to their next adventure, you feel great. Happy
customers and clients really do make it all worth
while. If you find them a home or sell theirs,
they are happy and you get paid!
-
-
-
With that said what does it take? It takes a firm
unwavering commitment to making the customer happy.
It takes telling the truth without exception, being
a consummate professional at all times. If
this sounds like you, give me a call for an
interview and I'd be happy to talk with you!
